You don’t have to be a multi-national aerospace giant to take Quality Management seriously. In fact, sometimes the biggest victories happen in the smallest offices.
Most of my days are spent navigating the rigorous, high-stakes world of AS9100, AS9110, and AS9120—the “gold standards” of the aerospace industry. These are complex frameworks designed for organisations where there is zero room for error. But recently, I had the pleasure of stepping away from the jet engines to work on a project that reminded me exactly why I love what I do.
Success in Chester: The Power of One
I recently wrapped up a consultancy project with a one-man business based in Chester.
His goal? To achieve ISO 9001 certification.
For a solo entrepreneur, the prospect of ISO certification can feel like climbing Everest. There’s a common misconception that Quality Management Systems (QMS) are “too corporate” or “too bureaucratic” for a small operation. Many fear they will be buried under mountains of paperwork that don’t actually help them do their jobs.
The C&A Approach: Lean, Mean, and Certified
My mission was to prove that a QMS should work for you, not against you. Using the same discipline I apply to aerospace audits, we built a system that was:
- Proportionate: No unnecessary fluff—just what was needed to meet the standard and improve the business.
- Practical: Designed to fit into a one-person daily workflow.
- Powerful: Providing the official “seal of approval” that opens doors to bigger contracts and better clients.
A Result to be Proud Of
I am thrilled to share that this client is now officially ISO 9001 certified.
The pride he feels isn’t just about the certificate on the wall; it’s about the professionalisation of his life’s work. He now stands on equal footing with much larger competitors, backed by a globally recognised standard of excellence.
No Business is “Too Small” for Quality
Whether you are a solo consultant in Cheshire or a Tier-1 aerospace supplier with hundreds of employees, the principles of quality remain the same: Say what you do, do what you say, and prove it.
At C&A Quality Services Ltd, we take as much pride in the “small” wins as we do in the global audits. If you’ve been holding back on certification because you think your business isn’t big enough yet, let’s talk. You might be closer than you think.
